The Finnish National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) has a well-established tradition of organising big international seminars on prevention of non-communicable diseases (NCD). In 2017, the spring conference will take place on 20-24 March and is backed by the WHO Regional Office for Europe. The audience of the 2017 conference will mainly consist of high-level health authorities from former Soviet countries.
The aim of the seminar is to present and discuss current international strategies and practices for the prevention and control of chronic noncommunicable diseases and their risk factors , including tobacco use. The Knowledge Hub on Surveillance will be present at the event, and Dr. Antero Heloma’s presentation will be dedicated to Finland’s approaches and systems in tobacco surveillance and data collection. He will also address the issue of using data in the decision-making process. Information about the WHO FCTC Secretariat’s network of knowledge hubs will be presented, and specifically of the Knowledge Hub on Surveillance, hosted by the Finnish National Institute for Health and Welfare.
